Physician Who's Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill to Exit Series Next Season

Physician Who Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who play pals Amy Pond and Rory Williams on Physician Who, will probably be departing the series following a approaching season, mind author and executive producer Steven Moffat introduced Thursday. "The Ponds will probably be rejoining us next series. Nevertheless the final occasions from the Ponds are coming," Moffat mentioned inside a news conference for Physician Who's approaching Christmas special, in line with the Uk Mirror. "I am not recommending when which i won't say how. But that story will showed up in a heartbreaking finish." As depressing as this news is always to fans, it must be noted that Moffat describes both figures as if they share Amy's surname, not Rory's. The Doctor can be a lonely Time Master though, and so the companion void will probably be filled very quickly. Moffat taunted, "So the Physician will come across a completely new friend and i am unlikely to show you about he, she or it." The Doctor Who Twitter account, however, tweeted more particulars will probably be available Friday. Physician Who boss and Karen Gillan on River Song, how her parents met and Hitler Gillan, 24, grew to become an associate from the series this season since the first companion in the Eleventh Physician, referred to by Matt Cruz. Darvill, 28, began as Amy's fiancé Rory, who eventually increased being the Doctor's companion and married Amy. "We have had most likely probably the most incredible journey which we required to hold hands at first once we grew to become an associate of," Cruz mentioned. "It is extremely disappointing, but this show is about change. It is almost always about searching forward." BBC, which produces and distributes the extended-running sci-fi series, told the Mirror it absolutely was a "mutual decision" for Gillan to exit. She been effective previous pals for instance Catherine Tate and Billie Piper. Physician Who's Arthur Darvill: I am hoping Rory stops dying Inside an interview while using La Occasions released Wednesday, Gillan - who's presently turning up in the experience London's West Finish - mentioned she wanted to pursue more projects round the stage afterwards. "If only to complete more theater. If only to complete more stage. I have got a genuine adoration for this. If only to make it happen around screen stuff, in many honesty, to make sure that might be really amazing. Maybe something on Broadway. Let me do this. Not just a musical, maybe as being a experience Broadway." For your third companion River Song, whose complicated backstory remains the foundation a vast amount of drama the 2009 season, Moffat stated that they'll probably be returning in a few capacity. Taken, Cruz recommended as of this own departure within the series, but he's signed onto are available in no less than 14 more episodes, which might premiere between 2012 and let you know 2013. The Doctor Who Christmas special airs Saturday, 12 ,. 24 at 8/7c on BBC America.

One Life to Live's Ilene Kristen Weighs In On Cancellation -- And The Fate of Fraternity Row!

Ilene Kristen, One Life to Live It's bad enough One Life to Live is going off the air. Now the show's soap-within-a-soap, Fraternity Row, has gotten the ax, too! But can Roxy Balsom save it? The dippy beautician, played by that irrepressible diva Ilene Kristen, is Fraternity Row's number one fan (who knew?) and is leading the charge in Llanview to keep the show on the air. TV Guide Magazine spoke with Kristen who will headline a special fantasy episode of OLTL airing Monday, Dec. 19 in which Roxy faints while visiting the set of Fraternity Row. When she wakes up, she's Lorraine, the leading lady of the show! TV Guide Magazine: Just under the wire, Ilene Kristen gets her very own episode! It's about damn time.Kristen: Thank you! I think the fans are gonna love it. This whole cancellation of Fraternity Row is a really brilliant way for our writers to comment on all the hell we're going through at OLTL. It's really great because I totally represent the fan base, all the wonderful fans who fought so hard to keep OLTL on the air. I represent the fans who showed up at the ABC upfront last May and booed [former ABC Daytime chief] Brian Frons when he walked into the building. And I'm proud to do so! They're a fervent group of people. TV Guide Magazine: So Lorraine is the Erica Slezak of Fraternity Row?Kristen: Yeah! Roxy falls unconscious and the next thing she knows she's the star. And everyone else in Llanview is in the show, too. Lorraine is married to David Vickers. Viki and Clint are her maid and butler. It's hysterical and a real valentine to our audience. TV Guide Magazine: If only OLTL's cancellation was a dream...Kristen: I do think I'm in the middle of a dream! A really, really bad one! It's just so sad and unreal. Somehow I keep thinking that if Roxy can keep Fraternity Row on the air, maybe Ilene can do the same for OLTL. Crazy, I know. I just don't understand why Oprah wouldn't save these soaps and run them on OWN. She is floundering. In the daytime she's running repeats of Medical Miracles and nobody's watching. I don't understand her master plan. TV Guide Magazine: Speaking of master plans, what's your take on the Prospect Park fiasco?Kristen: Did they have a master plan? Why would they start a project to save the soaps and then have it fizzle out like that? When Prospect Park said they weren't continuing with All My Children, I absolutely assumed it was because they wanted to put all their eggs in one basket with OLTL. Not that I wanted to see AMC die. But who thought this would happen? TV Guide Magazine: Was it better to live for a few months believing OLTL had a future? Or would you rather have known the truth all along?Kristen: I guess living in fairyland got us through the summer better than we would have otherwise but I think a lot of us would have done the last six months differently. I certainly would have started throwing out job feelers way before now. I thought I still had a job! We all did! [Laughs] I don't know that I would have given a $500 contribution to the Ensemble Studio Theatre. I bought one of the kids I mentor a $250 makeup case. Jeez. Now every little bit of money helps, especially when you don't know where your next job is coming from. But in a way I'm glad we thought we were going somewhere because it kind of kept me buoyant. TV Guide Magazine: The upside of delusion!Kristen: Yeah, right! Delusion. Collusion. Who knows what really went on there with Prospect Park? I'd like to know the real story someday. I was a little concerned when I heard the name of their [web platform] was going to be the Online Network. I thought, that's a little... dry. They needed a dazzling, great name. I don't know what was going on in their hearts and minds. I'd like to think they had good intentions, but a lot of people think it was all a ruse to keep the fans from being upset. TV Guide Magazine: It all seems a bit epic for a ruse. These people ain't that smart.Kristen: And it would be counter-productive for Prospect Park to be so deceitful. As it is, their reputation as a company is a little soiled at the moment. Our union, AFTRA, was only too anxious to speak with them, and the same goes for the Writers Guild. They cancelled a lot of appointments with the unions and I don't think that's been represented correctly in the press. The fans need to know the unions wanted to make this happen. I was on the AFTRA committee for this whole project and we did a lot of work - meetings, lots of correspondence - and it never really ever got down to the particulars. It's like they weren't serious. Prospect Park hardly went to any of the cast members at AMC, and yet they were claiming that the actors there were demanding this and that. And that was so not true. It's very enigmatic. TV Guide Magazine: And now there are no more East Coast soaps. You've been a fixture on the NY suds scene forever. Did you ever think you'd see this day?Kristen: Never! I grew up on the ABC soaps. I've worked there on and off since 1975 with Ryan's Hope. How can I not be on that network anymore? It's very bad for the NY actors to lose these shows. The Chew is so bad, as far as I'm concerned. I thought maybe there'd be this thing where ABC would go, "Oh, this new show isn't working. We better keep these soaps on the air. We're better off having them than not having them." But that's me and my daydreams. [Sighs] I'm really gonna miss it! The last six months they've given me such great stuff to play. There's such history at this show! I was looking at some old clips and I never realized Maggie Smith was on our show! TV Guide Magazine: She was not!Kristen: I saw a clip of her! TV Guide Magazine: Not possible. It never happened.Kristen: Well, you would know. Was I hallucinating? [Laughs] Maybe I am Lorraine! You know, it's funny. Not that I ever wanted Ryan's Hope to be over, but I'm sadder about OLTL going away. I had left Ryan's two different times and had such a strange history with them, but my last four or five years there were great. But I also knew I wouldn't get to play another great character if that show didn't go off the air. Roxy has been the most fun you can have doing something legal. I've been able to do some amazing things on this show. Why would I look for another part when Prospect Park said we were continuing? If you can still play Roxy, you don't look elsewhere. TV Guide Magazine: You'll bounce back. You always do. You're Ilene Kristen for crying out loud!Kristen: I know I will. I show up. That's what life's about. I show up places and things happen. I just find it so hard to believe that ABC no longer cares about the audience that has kept their soaps on the air for decades. [Laughs] Something in me just won't give up! If only I could get my goddammed set from Foxy Roxy's Hair Haven and set it up somewhere and start my own show - Ask Roxy! We could do it real cheap like the old-time Soupy Sales Show. We could bring on all the stars of OLTL. It could be, like, OLTL 2012: After the Apocalypse! Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Yates found a Potter of gold

David Yates can get the John Schlesinger Award for Excellence in Pointing. To date as movies went, David Yates had made just one, a virtually unseen low-budget pic, when David Heyman asked for him to direct "Harry Potter as well as the Order in the Phoenix." Four films and $4.2 billion box office later, Yates is just about the finest-grossing British director ever.Clearly, he wasn't a genuine rookie when the call came. After his false come from features while using $2.5 million period curio "The Tichborne Claimant," he reinvented themselves since the BAFTA-winning helmer of acclaimed TV series for instance "The Means By Which We Live Now," "Condition of Play" and "Sex Traffic."Nonetheless, he confesses he was surprised being handed the fifth installment in the finest franchise in movie history."I'd just made a decision to get this to bleak, intense drama about sex trafficking, so that it made an appearance as being a very odd juxtaposition," he recalls. "Once I visited see David, it made an appearance don't to request why. He mentioned he will be a large fan of my work, therefore i thought let's just allow it to relaxation there and discuss the material.InchDescribes Heyman: "He'd an authentic sensitivity for your material. He'd done 'State of Play,' which labored in politics inside a entertaining and accessible way. With the fifth film, the Harry Potter world was progressively political, which i was really considering somebody who could set the magical world removed from the actual existence."Yates was under no illusion in regards to the scale in the task, although he never imagined it could dominate his existence for an additional seven years."It absolutely was a massive challenge for nearly any director coming," according to him. "I realize Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell think it is greatly challenging, since they described so!"But he immediately felt empowered with the producers as well as the studio to forge their very own path."Each day, within the first draft in the script through 20, 30 drafts, you're affecting on, shaping," according to him. "There wasn't each next day of i didn't feel I used to be doing my factor. I desired to build up the earth up, making it feel more intense, deeper, more frightening. I desired to children a kids film with a film that grownups would definitely enjoy greater than kids."The producers as well as the studio were clearly delighted while using result, signing him up again for "Harry Potter as well as the Half-Blood stream Prince," as well as the two climactic obligations of "Harry Potter as well as the Deathly Hallows.""A Few Things I love about David is not exactly that he's a great storyteller, but he's a humanist -- he's always trying to find the emotional truth from the character," Heyman states."Potter" has transformed Yates in the well-regarded as as British TV director in to a Hollywood A-lister while using world at his foot. This month, he was attracted onto direct the bigscreen version of "Physician Who.""It's as though I've been through some portal are available out lack of,In . Yates states. "I enjoy a large amount of scripts stacked up, waiting being read. It's a thrilling time, which personally i think at this time around that i'm ready to begin anew.InchHowever Personally i think, oddly, which i have a great prove just like a filmmaker. Potter is Potter, there has been three other company company directors who done people films, which is Jo Rowling's world. The 5 Best Tidbits from Steven Spielberg's War Horse Q&A

I’m still a little sour with Steven Spielberg after he tried shilling the abysmal Cowboys & Aliens with a bunch of smarty-pants soundbites, but I’ll let him slide in case War Horse turns out to be fabulous. In this new, highly edited Q&A from MSN, Spielberg talks about the new movie, purposely casting an unknown as a lead, and the miraculous work of John Williams. All sounds good so far. But will we be left wanting? Or whinnying? On whether the book or play inspired him to make the film: “The book made me see the spine of the narrative, and the play made me see the emotional potential for a film adaptation — so it was really a combination of both.” On altering a script during filming: “You can’t start a movie by having the attitude that the script is finished. because if you thin the script is finished, your movie is finished before the first day of shooting.” On working with John Williams for 40 years: “We have a shorthand. He always sees the movie early and then he just goes away. And I don’t see him. And then I get a phone call and he says, ‘You want to come over to my office? I want to play you some themes.’ I go over to the office, and he sits down behind his Steinway, and he starts playing me themes. It’s been that way for almost 40 years. I love everything he’s ever written, but some scores that he sketches on the piano have a few profound effect on me. He plays three themes from this movie, and I was a goner. I was three handkerchiefs, right there.” On casting the film’s young protagonist, Albert: “I wanted an unknown to play Albert; I didn’t want a well-known actor to play him. Part of that is looking through who’s in theater currently, who’s going to acting class, who’s going to school studying acting, who just wants to volunteer to come in to read for our casting directors… It took months to find the right actor. Jeremy [Irvine] came in right in the middle of the casting process, and I saw him midway through casting and felt that I’d found my Albert. But I thought, If I found him this early, there must be someone better… I went to England and tested him again - I think he tested six times - I realized we weren’t going to do any better than Jeremy.” On protecting the horses during filming: “The only thing any of us cared about was that not a single horse was going to ever be injured making this picture. This picture wasn’t worth the injury to a horse. So it took us much longer to shoot that scene because we had to make sure every single shot was safe for the horse. It was also at night, which means we were up all night, which is no fun when you’re making a movie.” Does this excite you for War Horse, or is it Oscar bait you dread seeing? ‘War Horse’ chat with Steven Spielberg [MSN]

We Bought a Zoo

A 20th Century Fox release presented in association with Dune Entertainment of an LBI Entertainment, Vinyl Films production. Produced by Julie Yorn, Cameron Crowe, Rick Yorn. Executive producer, Ilona Herzberg. Co-producers, Paul Deason, Aldric La'Auli Porter, Marc R. Gordon. Directed by Cameron Crowe. Screenplay, Aline Brosh McKenna, Crowe, from the book by Benjamin Mee.Benjamin Mee - Matt Damon Kelly Foster - Scarlett Johansson Duncan Mee - Thomas Haden Church Robin Jones - Patrick Fugit Dylan Mee - Colin Ford Lily Miska - Elle Fanning Rosie Mee - Maggie Elizabeth Jones Walter Ferris - John Michael Higgins Peter MacCready - Angus MacFadyen Delbert McGinty - Peter Riegert Katherine Mee - Stephanie Szostak Mr. Stevens - JB Smoove"We Bought a Zoo" is an odd bird, warm-blooded but largely lifeless. Adapted from Benjamin Mee's autobiographical account of his experiences as the new owner of a fixer-upper menagerie, Cameron Crowe's overlong pic works hard to deliver intermittent pleasures, most of which derive from Matt Damon's affable lead turn. Animal action, as well as comedy of any variety, remains curiously sparse as Crowe strains to make a tribe of his human characters, including a ragtag zoo-keeping team and the widowed Mee's two kids. Sneaked nearly a month in advance, Fox's holiday offering lacks the zip needed to drive upbeat word of mouth. Though faithful to Mee's book in many respects, Crowe's "Zoo" shifts the setting from the British countryside to Southern California, and starts with Mee's wife, Katherine, having already died from illness (she's played in flashbacks by Stephanie Szostak). Like the soul-seeking protags of Crowe pics past, Damon's grieving Mee decides early in the film to turn his life upside down, abruptly quitting his job as an L.A. newspaper journo and moving himself and his kids -- teenage Dylan (Colin Ford) and 7-year-old Rosie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) -- to a rural property whose 18 acres include the Rosemoor Animal Park. Shuttered years ago, but still home to members of several dozen endangered species, Rosemoor is run by the twentysomething Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson), a workaholic animal lover who's skeptical of Mee's intentions until he opens his pocketbook and proves his concern for the likes of Buster, a 650-pound grizzly bear, and Spar, an aged and ailing tiger. Mee also has to deal with his own brood, particularly Dylan, whose bereavement takes the form of stubborn apathy for all but his own ornately grotesque drawings. Where Crowe's classics, "Say Anything" (1989) and "Jerry Maguire" (1996), work their magic in no small part through indelible supporting characters, "Zoo" is an altogether messier affair. Among an ensemble that never quite coheres are Kelly's teen cousin Lily (Elle Fanning), who flirts with Dylan; Robin (Patrick Fugit, who played Crowe's alter ego in "Almost Famous"), who keeps a capuchin monkey on his shoulder; MacCready (Angus MacFadyen), who drinks hard and has a bad temper; and Mee's accountant brother, Duncan (Thomas Haden Church), who shows up every now and then to wag a finger at his impractical sibling. Crowe, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aline Brosh McKenna, clearly wishes to celebrate the group's tireless efforts to reopen the park, but only Damon, convincing and likable throughout, has been given enough to do. As played sweetly by Jones, young Rosie is just another implausibly precocious pre-tween who, like Johansson's underwritten Kelly, exists largely to smile approvingly at the hero. The animals' reaction shots appear somewhat more nuanced, though, believe it or not, "Zoo" manages to shortchange its non-human performers as well. Per usual for a Crowe film, the soundtrack comes stuffed with goodies, although the mix of Neil Young, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, among many others, lacks the moments of musical epiphany in the director's signature works. The score by Jonsi of Sigur Ros sounds a touch saccharine and doesn't mesh well with the vintage pop. Tech credits, with the exception of the shapeless cutting, are solid but hardly vivid enough to compensate for the pic's deficiencies.Camera (Deluxe color), Rodrigo Prieto; editor, Mark Livolsi; music, Jonsi; production designer, Clay Griffith; supervising art director, Peter Borck; art director, Domenic Silvestri; set decorator, Wayne Shepherd; costume designer, Deborah L. Sitting on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays

Janet Leavel and Polly Draper see their marriage ceremony be a three-ring circus in Sitting on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. An exhibition by Joan Stein, Richard Frankel, Annette Niemtzow, Fakston Productions, Harley Medcalf, Jon Murray / Harvey Reese, in colaboration with Diana Buckhantz and Niclas Nagler, connect producers Luigi Caiola, Rebecca Falcon, and Mary C. Solomon, and executive producer Joe Watson, of the show in a single act created by John Shnipper and compiled by various playwrights. Directed by Stuart Ross. Production supervision, David Gallo Design, Ltd.With: Craig Bierko, Mark Consuelos, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris, Janet Leavel, Richard ThomasThere's history behind "Sitting on Ceremony: the Gay Marriage Plays," an understanding-good show honoring gay marriage. John Shnipper had the initial brainstorm with this engaging anthology of 10-minute "microplays," commissioned from known scribes like Paul Rudnick, Doug Wright, Mo Gaffney, and Moises Kaufman and given staged blood pressure measurements with a rotating roster of stars. After playing one-evening benefit perfs in La along with other metropolitan areas, show has polished up nicely with this Off-Bway debut helmed by Stuart Ross. With proper maintenance it will have the ability to sit lower to have an indefinite run. The unifying theme of same-sex marriage gives this assortment of short plays and monologues its strong identity. When you are the job of countless scribes and carried out on the flexible repertory schedule, the person plays don't share exactly the same perspective or speak within the same voice. Which will keep things interesting. Go ahead and take few the formal big event itself. In "A Conventional Wedding," Mo Gaffney takes an amused, but supportive look at a lesbian couple (performed with warming humor by Polly Draper and Janet Leavel) who attempt to observe a couple of ritual conventions at their wedding and find yourself employing a wedding coordinator and getting a 3-ring circus. Jordan Harrison requires a different slant on a single subject in "The Revision." Within an serious effort to re-write the standard marriage vows to mirror the greater sober facts that belongs to them situation, two grooms (the very watchable Craig Bierko and Richard Thomas) finish up pledging their troth "within the eyes of God and also the ever-shifting vagaries of condition and federal constitutional law." Although both plays should amuse, they create exactly the same serious point: that gay marriage is without precedent, and, for better or worse, partners who marry are p facto creating their very own traditions. In "London Nasty flying bugs," Moises Kaufman goes to date regarding question the idea of a gay big event. In delivering a moving eulogy for his partner, a grieving guy (superbly performed by Richard Thomas) describes they never married as their lengthy and faithful union of 46 years needed no formal contract to validate it. Searching past the ceremony itself, some scribes present humorous accounts of methods the authority to marry has produced unpredicted social and political issues for gay couples. The 2 funniest plays on that subject were both compiled by Paul Rudnick and therefore are carried out with great comic gusto by Harriet Harris. In "My Hubby,Inch Harris ("Completely Modern Winnie") gives an antic performance being an strongly loving mother who's eager for her gay boy (Mark Consuelos) to marry, so she will not be surpassed by her buddies. Harris is another riot in "The Gay Agenda" as Mary Elizabeth Carstairs-Sweetbuckle, a conservative lady who attempts to become more open-minded than her husband (who loves to state that Satan produced gay people like a crafts project), but becomes believing that gays take around the globe. The strong local appeal, together with the reduced-cost no-extras staging, the commitment of a continuing way to obtain fresh material, and a choice of drawing in the local talent pool to replenish the repertory ensemble all claim that the show has legs.Set, Sarah Zeitler costumes, Frank Torre lighting, Josh Starr seem, Seem Affiliates production stage manager, Seth Sklar-Heyn. Broadway's 'Godspell' is Heaven-Sent for its Cast

NY (AP) One was waiting tables at a Times Square seafood restaurant. Another was in Disney films and on tour with the Jonas Brothers. A third had performed at Carnegie Hall, but wondered when she'd land theater's biggest prize. All three George Salazar, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle and Celisse Henderson are overjoyed to be making their Broadway debuts this month in a revival of Stephen Schwartz's "Godspell.""For me, it's a dream come true," says Perez de Tagle while the others nod.The trio is part of a 10-person cast that stars Hunter Parish, whose credits include Showtime's "Weeds" and Broadway's "Spring Awakening," as Jesus but also has plenty of young performers making their first foray onto a Broadway stage. The hip musical retelling of the New Testament's Gospel of Matthew opens Monday at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The Tony-nominated score features the songs "Day by Day," ''Turn Back, O Man," ''Prepare Ye the Way" and "Light of the World" and the story updated with modern jokes, including references to Kanye West and Occupy Wall Street hits an infectious, hopeful tone."Godspell," which was an off-Broadway and Broadway smash in the 1970s and was made into a film in 1973, has been a mainstay of church groups, high schools and colleges ever since. Performers such as Jeremy Irons, Zach Braff, Gilda Radner, Madonna, Queen Latifah, Alice Ripley and Jon Hamm were in productions as young people. In an interview deep below the theater, Salazar, Perez de Tagle and Henderson laugh and joke as they describe how they each took very different paths to end up singing and dancing together."One of the most beautiful things about being in this group is that everyone involved is so unbelievable grateful to be here, for one reason or another," says Salazar, 25.The three are also soaking up media attention: They've been on "Late Show With David Letterman," photographed for Vanity Fair and were transformed into cartoons for a recent Broadway-themed episode of "South Park."Salazar, who hails from Kissimmee, Fla., was serving drinks and dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Times Square when he got a call this summer about the "Godspell" auditions. No problem, he thought: He had been in the second national tour of "Spring Awakening" and had stored up a few go-to songs. But there was a catch. His manager said producers of the musical were also asking performers to prepare their own improvised take on a Bible parable. And Salazar had little time to prepare his audition was the next day."Here I am with shrimp on trays and drinks in my hands, and I'm going, 'When am I going to do this?'" he recalls.Three months and five auditions later including a nerve-racking one in front of Schwartz, who also composed the music and wrote the lyrics for "Wicked" Salazar learned he had landed a role when his phone rang."I lost it. I was a sweaty, crying mess in the hallway on the ground. It was a moment I will never forget," he says. In honor of that moment, Salazar says he'll be wearing special Nikes on opening night featuring the number "08-26" Aug. 26 the day he was cast.Perez de Tagle, the baby of the group at just 20, was flying into NY for a promotional event from her home in Los Angeles when her manager suggested she go to the "Godspell" audition. She had begun her career on stage in regional productions of "Cinderella," ''The Wiz" and "The King and I" and lately had appeared on the Disney Channel's series "Hannah Montana," and in such films as "Fame" and "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam." Last year, she toured with the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. But her heart was on stage, even if she wasn't familiar then with "Godspell.". Multiple callbacks included flights back and forth from Los Angeles made that dream possible and now she has happily moved to NY and started a new life."This whole journey, with these amazing people, is honestly the best thing that ever happened," she says, her voice cracking with emotion. "I'm different now. And it's all because of them."Henderson's route has been the longest and most tortured. She was one of three actors in an earlier production of "Godspell" performed at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in 2006. It was to make the jump to Broadway two years later, but the economic crash made that impossible.A native of Oakland, Calif., 27-year-old Henderson has amassed varied credits: She was seen off-Broadway in "In Transit"; had a recurring role on "The Electric Company"; was in a national touring company of "Wicked"; and released her debut album "Show and Tell" last year. But Broadway was elusive. Until now."It's sort of come in a beautiful time in my life. I've been working in the business since I was 17," she says. "Now it's become the best thing that's ever happened to me."The three stress how fun and close the cast has become, a feeling perfectly in tune with a musical that is about 10 people who are reclaiming their joy. "It's not like work for us. It's playing," says Perez de Tagle. "It's just so much fun.""There are no egos, there are no personality clashes. Everyone works so well together and we have so much fun," adds Salazar. "We hope that there's a real long healthy run because, I don't want to stop working here."Copyright 2011 Associated Press. "It is a very large... factor. I really have no idea what it is going to seem like, I simply realize that it is extremely cumbersome. There's another factor which i put on that's a real costume. It's really quite simple. There is no paisley or anything."And also putting on the mo-cap, Shannon has apparently been doing his homework on the field of that they has become a vital element. REVIEW: Genial Birder Comedy The Big Year Ponders Life's Big Questions, with Few Goofy Hijinks

The Big Year has such an overstuffed comedic cast that it’s a shock to realize how modest and unconcerned with generating broad laughs it is. Directed by David Frankel (of The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me), produced by Ben Stiller and adapted from a book by former Denver Post reporter Mark Obmascik, The Big Year is only really a comedy in that it’s tonally light and doesn’t ever firmly commit in another direction. Mostly, it’s an earnest showcase for the subculture and annual circuit of competitive bird watching — the preferred term for the true devotees, apparently, is “birding” — in which the hardcore travel around the country hoping for sightings of as many species as possible, some keeping track (honor system only!) and submitting their final count to the North American Big Year contest. If you can’t begin to understand why someone would want to commit a significant amount of time and money to this activity (I’m still scratching my head over it myself), neither can many of the bemused supporting characters in the movie. One of the most commendable things about The Big Year is its willingness to allow that your passions are your passions, and while the world may not comprehend them, that doesn’t mean they have to be a source of unfair mockery. The three leads all experience their own encounters with resistance and scatterings of support, but the film never makes its obsessives into easy targets. Sad sack Brad Harris (Jack Black), who narrates, tries to balance his full time job at a nuclear plant with the time and expense of his pursuit of a Big Year, the helpfulness of his mother (Dianne Wiest) countered by the uncomprehending scorn of his father (Brian Dennehy). Then there’s former hotshot NY exec Stu Preissler (Steve Martin), who has the blessings of his loving spouse (JoBeth Williams) and enough cash to make travel to places like Brownsville, Texas, and Attu Island in Alaska easy. But his former colleagues (Kevin Pollak and Joel McHale — see what I mean about the cast?) still call on him for his business expertise, trying to lure him out of retirement. New Jersey contractor Kenny Bostick (Owen Wilson) is the reigning champion of birding, but his competitiveness in the field has destroyed his past marriage and threatens his current one, as his wife (Rosamund Pike) grows impatient about his absences as she undergoes fertility treatments in the hopes of getting pregnant. Genial and mild, The Big Year doesn’t give in to the temptation to juice up its story with outsized caricatures or inflated dramas. Not that there’s much opportunity for such things with an arc that stretches out over a year and tracks the ups and downs of people who get excited over the effect El Nio will have on migratory patterns. Instead, the film delves into pop psych questions about quality of life and the pursuit of happiness, with uneven results that are sometimes achingly on the nose — Brad points out in voiceover that Stu’s starting to confront his own mortality, though how he knows this is cause for speculation — and other times startlingly grounded, as in the fights Kenny has with his wife, who loves him but has begun to accept he’s simply not going to be there when she needs him. The Big Year is going to disappoint anyone who shows up in search of slapstick and goofy hijinks, which is probably most of the potential audience, given the draw of the aforementioned cast (which also includes Tim Blake Nelson, Anthony Anderson, Anjelica Huston, Jim Parsons and Rashida Jones as Brad’s inevitable fellow birder crush) and a trailer that gathers up everything in the film that could remotely be construed as a pratfall. The Big Year isn’t enough of a success to cause anyone to seriously mourn this fact, but it does seem unfair that the picture is bound to suffer for not meeting these expectations when its aims are so completely different. In its depiction of birding and of a contest with no prize outside of recognition within a small community, The Big Year actually explores, though not deeply, success and competition and their meaning on a larger life scale. The drive that some of these characters have to be on top, whether in work or in their chosen calling, interferes with their day-to-day happiness, while another is denigrated for his lack of traditional accomplishments and his dedication to such an unconventional choice of hobby, despite the pleasure it brings him. Wispy-slight as it may be, The Big Year deserves props for these gentle, minor philosophical explorations — though any film that involves a character fecklessly maxing out credit cards in our current economic reality, all dreams and aspirations aside, could do with a little added introspection.

John Cusack Finds His Inner Crime-Fighting Poet in The Raven Trailer

The last time we saw John Cusack onscreen, he was turning back time in a hot tub. Now, Cusack returns to the multiplex to travel much deeper into the past — far beyond embarrassing ’80s ski suits and Rick Springfield singles and into the 1800s, where as Edgar Allan Poe, he helps search for a serial killer who uses Poe’s own gothic stories as inspiration for his murders. Take a look at the first eerie trailer for The Raven below. Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) joins Cusack as Poe’s first cousin and wife (!) Virginia Clemm Poe, who it appears, is buried alive as bait in this murder mystery from V for Vendetta director James McTeigue. It doesn’t look like Cusack will disappear in this role as the macabre American author but I would gladly watch John Cusack star as Cusack in any genre, even a period thriller which requires him to cry-scream things like “I’ll send you to hell!” while wearing a silk ascot. VERDICT: Bring on the ravens, pendulums, pocket watches and premature burials. To view the trailer in HD, head over to Apple. [via Vulture]

Star Trek 2 prep includes comic books

J.J. Abrams stopped dragging his space boots recently and signed on to direct the sequel to Star Trek.So where is it already?Well, co-writer Roberto Orci says pre-production is now underway."The cast is excited. We have a director. We've started scouting locations. The second time around the crew is already together from the start, so we can jump right into the adventure," he told the official Star Trek website.Orci has also been busy working on some new Star Trek comics with writer Mike Johnson that will tie in with the movie sequel."The first few issues of the series are adaptations of The Original Series episodes, as the 'new' crew encounters some of the same threats the original crew did, but with differences that reflect things like Kirk being a younger captain and Spock losing his homeworld. As we get closer to the next movie, the stories will begin to foreshadow the events of the movie, such as possibly introducing new characters we will see on screen... pun very much intended," Johnson teased.

DJ Caruso Rounds Up The Goats

And finds a young duo to star...Despite having a load of projects bubbling away on his development burners (most notably the latest attempt to get legendary graphic novel series Preacher on the screen), I Am Number Four director DJ Caruso has instead been digging around the back of his larder and has dragged out long-gestating passion pic The Goats as his next likely film, with Chandler Canterbury and Annalise Basso set to star. The movie will be based on Brock Cole's young adult novel, a tale of two kids at summer camp who are less than popular with their peers. When a prank leaves them stranded on Goat Island, they decide to eschew the sheer humiliation of coming back and instead embark on an adventure together, which turns into a three-day odyssey of self-discovery. And, we assume, involves goats.Caruso's been trying to get this one going for a while now, and it would appear he's looking to make a small-scale indie film as a palate cleanser before attempting another huge effects fest.Canterbury is still probably best known for playing Nicolas Cage's son in Knowing, though he's also cropped up in Repo Men and as the young Peter Bishop in TV's Fringe. Basso, meanwhile, was seen in Bedtime Stories and has an occasional small role in True Blood.Shooting on the new film will kick off this month in Georgia.

Cameron has distinctive add tech

"Avatar" Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in James Cameron's "Titanic." As always, James Cameron thinks Hollywood's the usual understanding is wrong. So when it involves technology, he's a place. A week ago in the three dimensional Entertainment Summit my friend Rachel Abrams and that i got a couple of minutes to speak to Cameron about his approaching projects -- the three dimensional conversion of "Titanic" and also the two "Avatar" sequels -- along with the direction of movie technology. In typical fashion, he required the occasion to poke holes in certain traditional considering movie tech. Take three dimensional. Pros within the stereoscopic format might be taken aback at his undertake the dreaded three dimensional "edge breach," by which an item or actor touches the advantage from the frame and breaks the three dimensional illusion. But Cameron stated flatly, "I do not have confidence in edge violations." "I am talking about, should you consider it, if you are not ready to do edge violations, you cannot perform a movie," he states. "How may you perform a closeup? Where's the relaxation from the man's body? It's breaking the underside frame line. Unless of course you need to do that old theme-park-attraction idea of getting things fully bounded by obvious area surrounding them for each shot within the movie, you already know each and every shot will have edge violations." But he conceded there's an problem when something is within frame for just one eye but from frame for that other. For that "Titanic" conversion, Cameron's team is electronically getting rid of such objects in the frame altogether. For "Titanic three dimensional," he stated, they have gone to the initial super-35 negative to extract a brand new master for three dimensional conversion. Although the picture initially went within the widescreen 'Scope format, Cameron stated: "We now have something like a 16x9 frame available. Once we do our cleanup and fresh paint-on our three dimensional stuff, we are safeguarding for 16x9. Then when we release on Imax, we'll release it in 16x9 format, but the many other digital three dimensional platforms come in the 'Scope format. You will see a bit more than you saw before if you notice it at Imax." Cameron stated the two "Avatar" sequels won't be shot consecutive but rather may have intertwined agendas, so they are being shot at the same time. "Each one of these may have a 3-act structure," he stated. "Avatar 2" is really a "stand alone movie. It will not make you hanging close to a high cliff, there is however a bigger story arc that plays with the two films too.Inch Cameron has spoken openly about the requirement to amortize the expense of "Avatar's" innovative technology within the two sequels, but that does not mean he's using the identical tech because he did around the original in the end, he highlights, that tech could be 8 or 20 years old when "Avatar 3" bows. "So we are using the hiatus between one and 2, three to upgrade the technology," he stated. Particularly, they are making the pipeline faster and much more efficient. On "Avatar," the vfx team at Weta could not directly import the "template" footage that originated from the virtual shoot. Rather, they'd need to re-produce the digital moments and figures on your own. Around the sequels, Weta will have the ability to bring that template in like a low-res version from the scene and begin focusing on improving the look without needing to begin again. Cameron's next campaign is perfect for greater frame rates -- something that he's been promoting nearly as lengthy for three dimensional -- there is however been an issue by what the director favors: 48 fps (two times the present movie standard) or 60 fps (two times the present TV standard). Healing For Peter Jackson is shooting "The Hobbit" at 48. Cameron stated the price for that greater frame rates continues to be unknown, mostly since it means rendering a lot more digital images, but added, "Frankly, It could possibly get lower close to 10% from the rendering cost, and also the rendering price is typically 10% from the effects price of a film, so we are speaking lower about 1% (from the vfx cost) as we still do it.Inch "I'm now leaning toward 60 frames mostly due to broadcast," he stated. "Broadcast has already been at 60. We can not tell people visiting the cinema that you are likely to see less. Since we now have appeared this concept of frame rates in to the public awareness and in to the discourse, we can not tell people they're seeing less inside a cinema compared to what they are seeing within their home. And they are seeing 60 at this time within their home. Sports broadcasts are 60i (intertwined) moving to 60p (progressive) within the next year. We can not seem to be noncompetitive." The Biggest Loser's Dolvett Quince Blogs Episode 2

Dolvett Quince, Vinny Hickerson, Courtney Rainville Hey everyone! We are only in the second episode ofThe Biggest Loser's12th season and it is already super intense! The show definitely does an impeccable job of capturing the essence and seriousness of all that goes on at the ranch with the trainers and the contestants. I feel as though I am reliving my experience all over again and it feels pretty incredible! I think it was brilliant to have the gym open for just a limited time this week. Although the contestants felt otherwise, it was important for them to get that "real life" dilemma on the ranch. Once they leave the ranch and go back to their lives the will have to find time to workout. It reminds me of the personal training I did at my studio in Atlanta and the struggle I had with some clients and dealing with their schedules. It works the same with the contestants. They HAVE to learn how to make time in their daily lives to workout and eat clean, no matter what....NO EXCUSES! This is what I always told them day in and day out. I wanted them to leave the ranch in not only the best shape possible but with completely changed habits so they could maintain the benefits of all their hard work. I wanted them to continue to be proactive and healthy for the rest of their lives and as you saw for some of the contestants with Dr. Huizenga, it was a matter of life and death. It was definitely a reality check for everyone involved! The challenges are one of my favorite aspects of the show. This week was the water maze. The maze looked relatively easy at first but that turned out to be difficult for all the teams. Using your own body weight is always a great workout that's why resistance training is highly effective. The weigh-in was a mixture of emotions but overall I was proud of my team. Next week it's NFL week at the ranch. We have NFL superstars Drew Brees, Eric Dickerson, Tony Gonzalez, Clay Matthews, Shawne Merriman and Tim Tebow. I can't wait to watch along with all of you so continue to stay tuned! -Dolvett

Script, Monica Santana Baptista, Rui Santos, Luis Araujo, Joaquim Sapinho. With: Pedro Sousa, Joana Barata, Sofia Grillo, Pedro Carmo, Luis Castro, Joao Cardoso, Mariana Antonio.Featuring one of the most unusual recent film figures -- a surfing monk, or possibly a monkish surfer -- Joaquim Sapinho's "This Side of Resurrection" undermines its best intentions having a stilted rendering of complex family associations including the surfer, his adoring more youthful sister and alienated mother. The bland storytelling is paradoxically set from the spectacular backdrop of Portugal's Guincho beach, with Nuno Cardoso's brilliant underwater lensing supplying a effective feeling of how it is enjoy being in and underneath the waves. Emmys Fashion: Who Wore What

Elizabeth Snead contributed to Deadline’s Emmy coverage. Historically, the Emmys is not a couture-heavy red carpet. But last night several Emmy-nominated actresses sashayed into the Nokia Theatre modeling haute couture from international designers like Armani, Elie Saab, Marchesa and Dior. What does this mean? It could mean that TV actresses are increasingly cross-over film stars (and vice versa) and warrant couture designers attention. Or it could mean that the bigger awards — the Golden Globes and the Oscars — are now so competitive that designers are looking to the Emmys for additional celebrity mannequins. Who got the most gowns on the hottest actresses on the 2011 Emmy carpet? Lets do a head count. Giorgio Armani outfitted Julianna Margulies, the Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series winner from The Good Wife. He also garbed Top Chef reality star Padma Lakshmi and fresh face Minka Kelly, star of the upcoming Charlies Angels. Marchesa dressed Glee star Lea Michele and Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss. Oscar de la Renta had his designs on Modern Family‘s Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series winner Julie Bowen. But Elie Saab dressed Mildred Pierce winner Kate Winslet (left) and nominee Evan Rachel Wood as well as Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt. He gets extra points for dressing Winslet, who won the Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Emmy and gave major exposure to his simple elegant red gown, a design that was head and shoulders above the sea of strapless, garish, sparkly and overdone red gowns worn last night. We counted nine. Was there a red dress memo that went out? Project Runway star Christian Siriano dressed Heidi Klum and Modern Familys Sarah Hyland in his made-to-measure gowns. Calvin Klein dressed one star, but shes a big name — Katie Holmes — whose series The Kennedys was nominated.
